Autumn arrived in spectacular fashion at Gilling Reane when residents enjoyed a pumpkin picking experience with a prehistoric twist. What began as a fun seasonal activity quickly turned into an unforgettable adventure when an 8ft T-Rex stomped onto the scene to help residents choose their perfect pumpkins. According to witnesses, the dinosaur was enthusiastic, friendly and surprisingly helpful, although his tiny arms weren’t much use when it came to carrying pumpkins!

Residents spent the day selecting pumpkins ready for this week’s carving activities, enjoying the sights, colours and excitement that make this time of year so special. Seasonal events play an important role in life at Gilling Reane, helping residents stay connected with the changing seasons, celebrate traditions and enjoy the same experiences that people across the country look forward to each year. Marking occasions throughout the calendar creates a sense of connection, familiarity and belonging, while helping everyone keep track of the time of year and the special moments that come with it.
Of course, no one expected a dinosaur to be part of the autumn festivities. The surprise appearance of the giant T-Rex certainly kept everyone on their toes, with residents roaring with laughter as their prehistoric guest wandered among the pumpkins and the home! There were plenty of smiles, lots of photographs and more than a few playful attempts to decide whether the dinosaur was there to help pick pumpkins or simply looking for his lunch.

Finding new and enjoyable ways to encourage physical activity is always high on the agenda at Gilling Reane, and this event certainly delivered. Choosing pumpkins involved plenty of walking, stretching and exploring, while the appearance of a life-sized dinosaur added an extra incentive to keep moving. After all, picking pumpkins is great exercise, but picking pumpkins while occasionally running away from a T-Rex is on a whole different level!
The day was a huge success and left residents with wonderful memories, plenty of laughter and some fantastic pumpkins ready for carving. As autumn celebrations continue, the team at Gilling Reane remains committed to creating meaningful experiences that bring joy, encourage activity and make every season one to remember.
And while the residents loved their pumpkins, it’s fair to say the surprise dinosaur may have stolen the show. Thankfully, everyone escaped extinction and lived to tell the tale!
