We also encourage residents to bring small items of furniture to personalise their room. A number of the rooms enjoy views across the large secluded gardens, in which residents can get involved in their upkeep, or just relax and enjoy the picturesque surroundings.
Get to know Michele Jackson our Care Home Manager here at The Laurels…
Length of time at The Laurels:
I started at The Laurels when I was 15 ¾ yrs old 😉 1989 as a YTS Trainee.
Qualifications & Experience:
I have worked myself up through the years from Carer to Senior to Deputy and then to Manager. I gained my NVQ 2 in 1992, and Level 3 in 1996. In 1998 I achieved my NVQ assessor award to become a trainer to support candidates to achieve NVQ’s and then went on to be Assistant Manager in 2006, whilst undergoing level 4 and RMA. I became registered Manager in 2009.
My ethos as The Laurel’s Manager:
Being a Manager has changed through the years. I find every day is different and with this bring new challenges, which makes my role varied, this is what I enjoy about being a manager (someone with a lot of different hats). For me as a Manager I get job satisfaction knowing the residents are happy and feedback from families, N.O.K or other professionals is lovely to hear and ensuring we are continually reviewing and ensuring that we achieve good practices in the home.
Biggest achievement whilst working at The Laurels:
We have achieved well with CQC, Food Hygiene all score high (5), Infection Control we always score high. Overall if people come in to inspect we do well. I feel through the years of working here, the knowledge of the home I know inside and out. Also having a great team and the best residents makes it a happy home to live & work – and we are all very proud of that.
