Halloween brought a little bit of magic, a lot of laughter and more than a few surprises to Wellfield Care Home this year, as residents enjoyed a wonderfully fun-filled day packed with spooky treats and some very special visitors.
The celebrations began with a delicious Halloween buffet, where residents tucked into a selection of festive goodies while spending time together, sharing stories and enjoying the cheerful atmosphere. Colourful cakes, spooky snacks and plenty of sweet treats helped set the scene for a fantastic day of celebration.
But the real excitement arrived when the brilliant team from Scaly Safari brought along an incredible collection of animals and reptiles for residents to meet. From fascinating snakes and lizards to some truly adorable creatures, residents had the opportunity to learn all about the animals, ask questions, get up close and, for many, enjoy the thrill of holding them for the very first time.
Watching the reactions throughout the day was a joy in itself. There were wide eyes, nervous giggles, bursts of laughter and huge smiles as residents discovered just how friendly some of these unusual visitors could be. It sparked conversations, brought back memories and created lots of new ones too.
At Wellfield, we believe that celebrations are about so much more than marking a date on the calendar. They bring people together, encourage friendships, spark conversations and create moments that residents can talk about long after the event has finished. They add variety, excitement and a sense of anticipation, helping every day feel different and meaningful.
Perhaps the loveliest thing about days like this is being reminded that life is still full of firsts. No matter our age, there are always new experiences waiting to be discovered. For some residents, it was their first time meeting a reptile. For others, it was their first time holding a snake. And honestly, how many people can say they’ve sat with a hedgehog perched on their laptop while enjoying a bright green Halloween cupcake?
Those wonderfully unexpected moments are often the most memorable.
The visit from Scaly Safari gave residents the chance to learn something new, step outside their comfort zones and embrace a little adventure. From the brave residents eager to hold every creature they could, to those who were happy simply watching from a safe distance, everyone was able to join in and enjoy the experience in their own way.
