Hello! Who are you and what do you do here at Glenfield?!

I’m Sharon, the proud Manager at Glenfield Woodlands.

How long have you worked in care?

I have worked in the care sector for 20 years, and it has been a deeply rewarding journey. Over that time, I’ve had the privilege of supporting residents, families, and colleagues through many important and often emotional milestones. From celebrating achievements and special moments to offering reassurance and care during more challenging times, these experiences have shaped the way I lead and care today. The trust people place in us during some of the most important stages of their lives is something I never take lightly, and it remains a constant motivation in the work I do every day.

What drives your approach to care?

It’s pretty simple: listen deeply, act with compassion and lead with kindness. I believe every resident deserves personalised care, plenty of laughter and space to continue enjoying the things they love. I am passionate about creating a warm, welcoming home where older adults feel supported, valued and part of a real community.

What do you enjoy most about your role here at Glenfield?

The relationships we build and sustain every day. Forming genuine, long‑lasting connections with residents, their families and my colleagues is at the heart of what makes this role so rewarding. Whether it’s taking time to chat with residents and really get to know their stories, offering reassurance and support to families, or working closely alongside an incredible team who care deeply about what they do, those relationships give real meaning to my work. Knowing that people feel listened to, supported, and confident in our care makes every day special. It’s these connections that create a true sense of community within the home and they’re the reason I find the role so fulfilling and worthwhile.

You mentioned team there and we know how important they are – How would you describe your leadership style?

My leadership style is centred on people. I am passionate about supporting my team, helping individuals grow in confidence and skills, and recognising the strengths each person brings. I believe people do their best work when they feel valued, listened to, and trusted, so I work hard to create an open, supportive environment where staff feel comfortable sharing ideas, asking for help and celebrating success together. I make a point of recognising achievements; both big and small, because feeling appreciated matters. A motivated, happy team creates a positive atmosphere throughout the home and that directly translates into consistent, compassionate, high‑quality care for our residents.

How do you unwind outside work?

I love spending time with my children and grandchildren. On sunnier evenings, you will often find me walking to the pub for a relaxed drink or catching up with family and friends.
