There was plenty of tail-wagging, cuddles and happy memories at Gedling Care Home this week as residents welcomed a very special visitor, Harley the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Harley and his owner Steve, who volunteer with the charity Pets as Therapy (PAT), spent time meeting residents throughout the home, bringing comfort, companionship and plenty of smiles wherever they went. For many residents, the visit was especially meaningful. Having owned and loved dogs themselves over the years, spending time with Harley brought back treasured memories of family pets and special moments from the past. The gentle spaniel was more than happy to soak up all the attention too, making sure everyone who wanted a fuss got one!

Visits like Harley’s are about so much more than simply meeting a friendly dog. They provide connection, stimulation and engagement, helping residents feel connected to the wider community and bringing something new and exciting into their day. Whether it was sharing stories about beloved pets, enjoying a cuddle, or simply watching Harley happily make his way around the home, the visit created moments of joy for everyone involved.
At Gedling Care Home, residents’ wellbeing is always at the heart of everything we do. Welcoming visitors from outside the home, whether they have two legs or four, helps create meaningful experiences that support emotional wellbeing, encourage conversation and brighten people’s day. Judging by the wagging tail and the smiles on residents’ faces, Harley enjoyed the visit just as much as everyone else, and we look forward to welcoming him back again soon.
