A Week Full of Simple Pleasures at Sandford

Oct 26, 2026

It’s been another busy and heartwarming week at Sandford Care Home, with residents enjoying a wonderful variety of activities, outings and social moments that have brought plenty of smiles along the way.

A couple of residents were delighted to enjoy a special Halloween milkshake delivery, proving that life in a care home doesn’t mean giving up the things you love. In fact, one of the most important parts of life at Sandford is making sure residents can continue enjoying their favourite treats, hobbies and experiences. Whether it’s a milkshake delivery, a favourite snack or an afternoon out, we’re always looking at ways to make wishes happen and bring a little extra happiness to someone’s day.

Meanwhile, Rita and Rosemary enjoyed getting out and about, making the most of the fresh air and a change of scenery. Philip and Ann got creative with some arts and crafts, showing that creativity can be enjoyed at any age and providing a wonderful opportunity for self-expression and relaxation.

Some of our residents also enjoyed being pampered with a little nail care. Looking after your appearance is important no matter your age, and something as simple as having your nails done can have a huge impact on self-esteem, confidence and wellbeing. Feeling good about yourself helps maintain a sense of identity, pride and self-respect, which is something we actively support every day.

There were also lovely outings to feed the ducks, enjoy a stroll outdoors and, of course, stop for coffee and cake. These simple trips provide more than just a change of scenery. They encourage independence, spark memories, support wellbeing and give residents opportunities to continue enjoying the everyday pleasures many of us take for granted.

One of the most heartwarming sights this week was seeing a group of ladies gathered around a table, chatting away over a brew and snacks. It might seem like a simple moment, but these are often the moments that matter most. Sitting with friends, sharing stories, having a laugh and enjoying each other’s company can be incredibly nourishing for the soul. These everyday social interactions help build friendships, reduce feelings of loneliness and create a genuine sense of belonging.

At Sandford, we know that no two residents are the same. Everyone has their own interests, preferences, hobbies and things that bring them joy. That’s why variety is so important when planning activities and experiences. While one resident may enjoy arts and crafts, another may prefer a walk outdoors, a trip for coffee, a beauty treatment or simply spending quality time with friends. Our role is to listen, understand and create opportunities that reflect individual choices and needs.

Living in a care home should never mean living with restrictions or going without. Instead, it means having the support needed to continue enjoying life, pursuing interests and experiencing the things that matter most. Every smile, conversation, outing and personal achievement helps create a home where residents can continue to live life their way.

And judging by this week’s happy faces, we’re certainly on the right track.
