Behind the curtain – An inspiring conversation with Gedling Manager, Michelle Garland

Mar 30, 2026

At the heart of every exceptional care home is a leader whose dedication, compassion and vision shape the everyday experiences of residents and staff alike. At Gedling care home, that leader is Michelle Garland, a manager whose energy and commitment have helped create a warm, vibrant, and truly family‑centred environment.
Recently, we sat down with Michelle to talk about her approach to care, what makes Gedling special and why the home continues to shine as a place where people feel genuinely valued.

Gedling Village is our happy place.

A Warm, Welcoming Environment
Michelle speaks passionately about creating a space that feels safe and homely. Gedling care home prides itself on its warm interiors, relaxing communal areas, and cosy corners where residents can chat with friends or enjoy quiet time.
Feedback from families often focuses on how instantly at ease they feel when visiting. That calm, inviting atmosphere, Michelle explains, is no accident.

Engagement & enrichment, at the heart of everything we do
Michelle speaks with unmistakable pride when she describes the dementia ward at Gedling care home. A space that’s been a true labour of love, that gives a great sense of satisfaction now it’s complete. Designed to look like a charming row of traditional shops, the ward creates a comforting, familiar environment that helps residents feel comfortable and at ease. Michelle explains that the thoughtful layout not only sparks positive memories but also encourages real engagement and independence. For her, seeing residents smile as they “visit” the barbershop, browse the vintage storefronts, or simply stroll along the shop‑lined corridor is one of the most rewarding parts of her role. It’s a place where creativity and compassion come together and Michelle couldn’t be prouder of the comfort it brings to those living with dementia.

A Vibrant Lifestyle for Every Resident
Life at Gedling Village is far from ordinary. Michelle outlines a bustling programme of activities designed to bring joy, stimulation, and a sense of purpose to every day. These include:

  • Animal therapy
  • Musical entertainment
  • Gardening and outdoor activities for fresh air and exercise
  • Play & stay sessions
  • Arts and crafts

Every activity is designed to cater to residents’ interests, abilities and wellbeing. This contributes to creating opportunities for connection, variety and enjoyment throughout the week.

A Home Built on Heart
After speaking with Michelle Garland, it’s easy to understand why Gedling Village has such a glowing reputation. Her leadership inspires a culture of warmth, dignity and joy. A home where both residents and staff feel truly supported.
Gedling care home is more than a place to live.
It’s a place to belong. To thrive.
