Residents at The Old Rectory Care Home recently enjoyed a relaxing and creative afternoon making beautiful butterfly artwork using sticks, leaves and other natural materials collected from the home’s grounds.
With cups of tea in hand, residents gathered together in the main lounge where the conversation flowed just as freely as the creativity. As they carefully arranged leaves and sticks into colourful butterfly designs, the room was filled with laughter, friendly gossip and cherished memories. Residents shared stories from years gone by, chatted about family, and enjoyed spending quality time together while creating something unique.

Activities like these are about far more than arts and crafts. At The Old Rectory, we believe it is important to encourage residents to try different experiences, express themselves creatively and continue learning new skills, no matter their age. Creative activities can help stimulate the mind, encourage concentration, support wellbeing and provide valuable opportunities for social interaction and friendship.
Most importantly, they are a chance to have fun. Seeing residents chatting, laughing and encouraging one another is a wonderful reminder of how meaningful shared experiences can be.

As we always say, our priority is to ensure every resident is safe, cared for and loved within our home. But beyond that, it is equally important that they feel encouraged, engaged, enriched and excited about what comes next. We are constantly looking for new ideas, activities and experiences that bring enjoyment, purpose and variety to everyday life.
From nature-inspired crafts to outings, entertainment and new hobbies, our team is always thinking about how we can create moments that spark conversation, inspire creativity and help residents continue making happy memories together. The butterfly art was a perfect example of this, with residents leaving the session proudly showing off their creations and already looking forward to the next activity.
