Message from our manager, Michelle

Welcome to our June Newsletter.
We have had lots of fantastic activities going on in May for our residents, especially Dementia Care Week.
We had a lovely visit from MP Michael Payne, see below what he has to say. We had a great night for Quiz night and all the families enjoyed it that much we are going to do it every couple of months, next one being in July, look out for more information.
Furthermore, we have created an upcoming events planner for our big events leading up to Christmas so taek a look and save the date.
I would like to thank you all for your continued support.
Many Thanks

Michelle

What’s Coming Up This June at Gedling Village Care Home

June is set to be another exciting and engaging month at Gedling Village Care Home, with a full programme of activities, events and special moments for residents to enjoy.

A Month of Activities and Engagement

Residents can look forward to a varied timetable designed to support wellbeing, encourage social interaction and bring plenty of enjoyment to daily life. Regular favourites will continue throughout the month, including:

  • Music and movement sessions, helping to keep residents active while enjoying familiar songs
  • Arts and crafts activities, offering opportunities for creativity and self-expression
  • Games and group activities such as bingo, quizzes and classic pastimes
  • Gentle exercise sessions, supporting both physical health and mobility
  • An adventurous river cruise
  • Father’s Day Celebrations!

These activities ensure every day brings laughter, connection and meaningful experiences for residents across the home.

Building on a Fantastic May

Following an incredibly successful May, June continues the momentum of community spirit and togetherness. Last month featured a wide range of enriching activities, from music sessions and creative workshops to community visits and social events.
A key highlight was Dementia Action Week, where residents took part in music sessions and animal therapy experiences that supported wellbeing, reduced stress and encouraged positive interaction.

Not to forget the residents coming together to make delicious cookies, which were eaten in less time than they would take to bake!!

Special Experiences and Celebrations

May has been filled with special events and celebrations. Residents marked occasions such as International Cocktail Day with themed refreshments, music and socialising, while birthdays were celebrated with joy and togetherness.
A particularly memorable moment was the home’s first ever quiz night, which brought families and residents together for an evening of fun while raising funds and building a strong sense of community.

A Lovely Visit

The home was delighted to welcome MP Michael Payne, who spent time meeting residents, staff and families. The visit highlighted the caring environment within Gedling Village and recognised the dedication of the team in delivering compassionate, high-quality care.

Michael noted
Today I had the pleasure of visiting Gedling Village Care Home, where I spent time meeting residents, staff and families. I was truly blown away by what a wonderfully caring environment it is.

A huge thank you to Manager Michelle Garland and the entire team for such a warm and welcoming visit. Every single member of staff is compassionate, caring and so proud to be looking after their residents.

I was especially impressed by the Forget Me Not suite, which provides specialist dementia care in a truly thoughtful and innovative environment. From beautifully designed “street-style” corridors with shop fronts, telephone boxes and a bus stop, to the personalised memory boxes outside residents’ rooms, every detail has clearly been created with compassion and dignity in mind.

It was wonderful to speak with residents and hear about their lives, experiences and remarkable stories. They represent a generation to whom we owe so much, and it was an immense privilege to spend time with them. Every single one of them has left a lasting impression on me.

It is clear that Gedling Village Care Home has undergone a remarkable transformation and is thriving under its current leadership – well done Michelle, Jane and the team! The care, kindness and dedication shown by staff, alongside the support of families and friends, shines through in every part of the home.

Thank you again to everyone for making me feel so welcome – I look forward to visiting again soon.

Working Together as a Community

Community spirit continues to shine at Gedling Village. A recent project saw visitors from Luxfer help create a beautiful new pond and water feature, enhancing the outdoor space for residents to enjoy.

Double Birthday celebrations at Gedling!

Residents and staff came together to celebrate two special birthdays in May for Margaret and Grenville, filling the home with smiles, laughter and plenty of warm wishes.
Moments like these truly highlight the wonderful sense of community at Gedling Village

Recognising Our Team

The team at Gedling Village remains at the heart of everything the home does. This month, Caroline has been recognised as Employee of the Month in appreciation of her dedication and the care she provides to residents every day.

Thanks for your continued interactions and support from everyone at Gedling care home.
