Gedling Catchup – Fun, Friendship & New Experiences

Aug 8, 2026

July was a busy and memorable month at Gedling Village Care Home, with residents enjoying a packed programme of activities, outings and social events designed to bring people together and create meaningful experiences. From exciting trips out in the community to creative activities and relaxing wellbeing sessions, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

One of the month’s highlights was a wonderful visit to White Post Farm, where residents spent the day meeting a variety of animals, feeding goats and pigs, exploring the reptile house and enjoying a packed lunch together. The outing was a huge success, with plenty of smiles, laughter and special memories made throughout the day. Staff who volunteered their time off to support the trip helped make the experience possible, ensuring everyone could enjoy a fantastic day out.

Back at the home, residents embraced a wide range of activities aimed at supporting wellbeing, creativity and social interaction. Regular music and movement sessions proved particularly popular, with favourite songs from artists including Tom Jones, ABBA and Doris Day encouraging residents to sing, dance and enjoy exercise together. Armchair exercise classes also helped residents stay active while having fun.

Creativity continued to be encouraged, and the residents flourished, taking part in loom knitting sessions, chocolate making, gardening activities and arts and crafts projects. The newly launched gardening club saw residents decorating plant pots before planting seeds and lettuce, while the vegetable garden continued to thrive thanks to the care and attention of residents who helped with watering and maintenance during the warm weather.

Community connections remained a key part of life at Gedling Village. Residents enjoyed another visit to The Mucky Duck Community Café, where they shared stories about holidays, watched a Punch and Judy show, enjoyed balloon modelling and even made sandcastles. Intergenerational activities also brought plenty of joy, with residents joining in songs and laughter alongside local children.

The warm summer weather was embraced safely, with staff ensuring residents stayed cool and hydrated through rehydration stations stocked with fresh fruit and vegetables, homemade ice lollies and refreshing drinks. Residents also celebrated International BBQ Day, enjoyed themed dining experiences and watched the Men’s Wimbledon final with homemade scones topped with strawberry jam and fresh cream.
