Across our group we have an array of great job opportunities and with a wealth of life experience – we are on the hunt for retired workers who would like to return to work! Take a look at our Cook, who came out of retirement to offer her wealth of experience at our care home Gillingreane.
“I retired as a Ward Clark in Kendal Green hospital, then Westmorland General. Julie my daughter who is the Care Home Manager at Gillingreane approached me about doing a bit of part-time cooking. I was finding retirement a little quite and boring, so I thought I have nothing to lose and went for it and I am so glad I did! Since working at Gillingreane my husband developed Dementia and coming to work everyday is a bit of respite for me, its away from the continual repetitive behaviour, although here I look after dementia residents its different. It’s my like my own little haven. I am a natural born feeder and thrive on people eating and my passion is producing fantastic homemade food. I also enjoy the company, laughter, someone to listen to how I am and hear other peoples stories… I have a great relationship with the staff and residents and it gives me a purpose to look after others.”
“I also enjoy doing the shopping for our residents each week, anything they’ve run out of I go out and get. I bring my husband with me and he helps, so it gives him a sense of purpose too. If anyone is considering a career in care after retirement I would say go for it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!”
