Residents’ Wish Becomes a Reality at The Old Rectory

Sep 8, 2026

At The Old Rectory Care Home, fundraising is about so much more than raising money. It is about creating opportunities, making dreams come true, and ensuring that residents continue to have a say in the things that matter most to them.

Over the years, our dedicated team, residents, families and supporters have worked together to raise funds for activities, special experiences and wishes that help make life at The Old Rectory even more enjoyable. But one recent project has been particularly meaningful.

When residents were asked what they would like the next fundraising project to be, there was a clear favourite. They all agreed that they would love a beautiful water feature for the garden.

The idea quickly gathered momentum. Residents were involved in discussing different options and choosing the design they felt would bring the most enjoyment to everyone. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm as they shared their thoughts, considered the possibilities and worked together to make the decision.

For many people, being able to make choices about their surroundings may seem like a small thing. But at The Old Rectory, we know how important it is. Having the freedom to make decisions, express preferences and contribute to the community around you helps people maintain their independence, confidence and sense of purpose.

The excitement grew as plans became reality. Piece by piece, the water feature started to take shape, with residents eagerly following its progress and sharing in every stage of the journey.

Today marks a particularly special milestone, as the electrician has completed the wiring, bringing the project one step closer to being fully enjoyed by everyone.

Seeing this wish become a reality is a reminder that it is never too late to make exciting choices, learn new things and create something meaningful together. The water feature will not only provide a peaceful focal point in the garden, but also serve as a lasting symbol of what can be achieved when residents are listened to and their voices are heard.

Most importantly, it represents the power of choice. It shows that residents remain at the heart of decision-making at The Old Rectory and that their ideas continue to shape the home they live in.

We cannot wait to see everyone enjoying the gentle sounds of running water and the calming atmosphere it will bring to the garden. This is a project chosen by residents, for residents, and one that will be appreciated for many years to come.

At The Old Rectory, we believe every voice matters, and this beautiful new addition is proof that great things happen when wishes are turned into reality.
