Sticky Hands and Sweet Success at Wellfield Care Home

Sep 7, 2026

There was plenty of flour, laughter and a few sticky fingers at Wellfield Care Home this week as residents rolled up their sleeves for a wonderful baking session.

Our talented bakers tried their hand at a brand-new recipe, soft and chewy Raisin Oatmeal Cookies straight from the USA, and the results were absolutely delicious. From measuring ingredients and mixing the dough to shaping the cookies and watching them bake to golden perfection, residents enjoyed every step of the process.

The aroma of freshly baked cookies soon filled the home, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that brought everyone together. Best of all, the tasty treats will be making an appearance on the tea trolley, giving residents something extra special to enjoy with a cuppa.

Baking is much more than simply making something delicious. Activities such as this provide valuable opportunities for residents to stay active, engaged and connected. Following a recipe encourages concentration and memory skills, while measuring, mixing and decorating helps maintain coordination and dexterity. Just as importantly, baking creates natural opportunities for conversation, teamwork and shared achievement.

There is something truly special about gathering around a table with a common goal. Residents shared stories, swapped baking tips and enjoyed plenty of laughs along the way, turning a simple afternoon activity into a memorable social occasion.

The smiles on everyone’s faces said it all as trays of freshly baked cookies emerged from the oven. A huge well done to all the residents who took part and helped make the session such a success. The cookies may not stay on the tea trolley for long, but the enjoyment, friendship and sense of accomplishment created during the afternoon will last much longer.

At Wellfield Care Home, activities like baking continue to prove that some of life’s sweetest moments are made when people come together, get a little messy and create something wonderful.
