Summer Smiles, Music and Community Spirit at The Old Rectory

Aug 1, 2026

Summer is in full swing at The Old Rectory Care Home, and July has been packed with laughter, entertainment, celebrations and wonderful community spirit. As the sunshine continues to brighten our days, residents and staff have been making the most of every opportunity to enjoy time together and create special memories.

One of the biggest highlights of the month was our hugely successful Plant Sale, organised by the fantastic Gary. Thanks to everyone’s hard work and support, the event raised an incredible £500, a wonderful achievement that the whole home is proud of. Our keen gardening team are still busy potting plants and keeping their green-fingered passion alive, proving that the success story is continuing long after the sale ended.

Music has also played a starring role throughout July. Residents thoroughly enjoyed being entertained by our latest singer, Jack, while country and western favourite Jeff Gallent had everyone tapping their feet and singing along. The fun continued when the Village Voices Choir visited the home, bringing plenty of energy and smiles. Not to be outdone, several members of staff quickly formed their own choir and joined in, creating a memorable afternoon filled with laughter and song.

There have been special celebrations too, with two of our residents marking their birthdays surrounded by friends, staff and well-wishers. These occasions are always a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate the people who make The Old Rectory such a special place to live.

Technology has brought even more enjoyment to daily life thanks to the generosity of Rachel, who kindly donated five Alexa devices for residents. The new additions have been a huge hit, providing entertainment, music and easy access to information. A heartfelt thank you goes to Rachel for such a thoughtful gift.

Despite the warm weather, regular activities have continued throughout the home, with adaptations made to ensure everyone remains comfortable while still enjoying their favourite events. Our weekly church service remains a cherished part of life at The Old Rectory, and residents always look forward to welcoming Shaun and his wife, whose visits are greatly appreciated.

Meanwhile, our popular Knit and Natter Club is entering an exciting new chapter and will now be known as the Chit Chat Club. The new name reflects plans to expand activities and create even more opportunities for residents to socialise, share hobbies and enjoy each other’s company.

Looking ahead, excitement is building for our biggest event of the summer, the Annual Fête on 1 August. The event will help raise funds for a beautiful new water feature for the garden, and everyone is warmly invited to come along, support the home and enjoy what promises to be a fantastic day.

With gardening successes, musical entertainment, birthday celebrations, generous donations and community fundraising all taking place in one month, July has been a wonderful reminder of what makes The Old Rectory such a vibrant and happy home. We can’t wait to see what August brings!
