The Mayor of Gedling visits staff & residents at Gedling care home

Mar 21, 2026

The Mayor of Gedling recently visited Gedling Village Care Home to spend time with both residents and staff, creating an exciting and uplifting atmosphere through the home. During the visit, the Mayor spoke with team members about their dedication to providing high‑quality care and engaged with residents who were delighted to share stories about their lives and experiences. The visit highlighted the strong relationship between the care home and the local community, celebrating the compassionate work carried out every day.

The Mayor was especially impressed with the shopping centre we’ve built, to engage our residents and he was thrilled watching the residents interact with the school children on one of their regular visits to the home.

To commemorate this special occasion, a video of the Mayor’s visit was filmed and is now available to watch on YouTube. The footage captures the meaningful interactions, heartfelt moments, and the vibrant spirit within Gedling Village Care Home.

The Mayor, Kyle Robinson-Payne added

“Today I had the pleasure of visiting Gedling Village Care Home, where I met residents, staff and friends of the home and had the opportunity to look around the facilities. I also brought along some biscuits for the residents to enjoy with a cuppa.
Thank you to Manager Michelle Garland and her wonderful team for such a warm welcome. During my visit I joined the Goosey Ganders stay and play session, where young children and toddlers come into the home to meet and play with the residents. Many residents told me how much they enjoyed seeing the children, saying it brought back lovely memories as they sang along to nursery rhymes together.
I was also given a tour of the Forget Me Not suite, which specialises in dementia care and support. I can honestly say I have never seen a set up quite like it. The corridors are designed like real streets, complete with telephone boxes, shop fronts and even a bus stop. Memory boxes outside each room reflect residents’ hobbies and passions from their lives and the rooms themselves are spacious and beautifully decorated.
It is clear the home has undergone a significant transformation and, under its current management, is going from strength to strength. It was so lovely to spend time chatting with everyone and getting to know people, and I will certainly return in the future to say hello.
A home like this does not just happen. It is created by the dedicated people who work there and the many friends and visitors who support the residents every day. Well done to everyone involved”
